CragBaby: The U.S. Life of The Boom

    what a cool post!

So....here's the instructions on how to throw a boomerang:

Firstly, it's a right-handed boomerang so sorry to any left-ies that try it.

hold the boomerang near one end (it doesn't matter which). You're throwing in an over-the-shoulder method, i.e. the boomerang is almost vertical (tilt about 10degrees away from your head).

o.k., now face into the wind, and turn to the right 45degrees. of course, if there's no breeze, even better and don't worry about this!

After that, it's just a case of throwing. Make sure to throw it forward, not upwards. And you don't need to throw it as hard as you can, it'll still do it's thing.

with a bit of practice, you'll have it returning to the thrower almost every time!

the scary part is if you want to catch it. Note, aboriginal people did not normally catch it, but it is possible. The scary part: to catch it, you stand directly in front of it as it comes at you, and clamp both of your hands on it. I.e. one hand above and one below and just clap your hands together at the right time. Yes expect to bash the tips of your fingers a few times (we found we always closed our hands early - probably to stop us hitting ourselves in the chest :).

    Have fun!
