Platelet Donation Unsuccessful

I tried to donate platelets (the cells that assist in coagulation) today after work, but was unable to due to an iron deficiency (most likely because I don’t particularly like to eat meat). I have to wait two weeks before I can try to donate again.

  • I haven't given blood since college, half because I'm a terrible person, but also because I'm AB+, the universal receiver. So from what I've been told my blood is usesless :-(
  • That's crazy. I've tried to donate since arriving home in Ireland, and have been told that I'm not allowed for a minimum of six months after being in Asia!
    Obviously a lot stricter here in Eire.....
  • Nate... interesting. I have another friend who is exactly the opposite as he has a unique blood type (O maybe?) and is always called in for special cases.


    Neal, yeah, when I went to China I had to wait a year before I could donate. Here in the states is depends on how long you were there and in what areas (and the prevalent diseases). Thanks for continuing to try though. =)
