If one loves the outdoors, Utah truly is the place.  And I actually love the people; there are only a handful of climbers who negatively affect me so I just need to distance myself.  And if that is Utah's only weakness.... I moved here 5 years ago from Baltimore.  We were driving about 6 hours each way every weekend to get to good sport climbing.  I definitely agree with you about some of the negative people, but relative to a lot of other places, people here are extremely nice.
